All the holes in your kit are pre-punched & ready to guide you, so you can get straight to the fun part! Here's everything you need to know about the three stitches used in this kit.
Back Stitch
Back stitch creates a neat & continuous line of stitching. It’s perfect for outlining & adding detail to your felt parts.
Push your needle up through hole 1 & pull the thread through. Push the needle back down through hole 2 (the hole behind where you started) & pull through. Now bring your needle up through hole 3 (the hole in front of where you started). Repeat this motion, & remember you’re always stitching backwards into the previous hole to keep your line neat & even.
Top Tip: Keep your tension consistent & don't pull too tight or the felt will pucker!
Running Stitch
Running stitch is used to join two pieces of felt together along an edge. This creates a lovely looped border around your bag.
Place your two felt panels together. Push your needle up through both layers from back to front through the first hole & pull the thread through. Loop the thread over the edge & push the needle up through the next hole from back to front. Repeat all the way around, keeping your loops even & the same size.
Top Tip: Always push the needle in the same direction, to keep your loops neat & consistent.
Cross Stitch
Cross stitch creates a neat X shape which is perfect for securing your straps & adding a decorative detail.
Push your needle up through hole 1 & pull the thread through. Push the needle down through the diagonal hole to create a diagonal stitch. Bring the needle back up through the hole below your starting point & push back down through the remaining hole to complete the X.
Top Tips: Try to keep all your crosses the same size & make sure the top diagonal always crosses in the same direction for a neat, tidy finish! We would recommend doing two layers of this cross stitch to make sure the handles are securely attached to the main body of the bag.
